Adoption Process for Our Nebraska Adopters

1. Verbal Interview – Traditional adoption questionnaires have served as the typical approach for dog breeders when reviewing potential adopters, though we’ve found their limits over time. Most prospective adopters, regardless of their actual suitability, can effortlessly craft the “correct” responses on paper. Authentic evaluation requires a more personal approach that surpasses what any preset questionnaire can offer. This is why, as responsible English Bulldog breeders, we value genuine conversations over the phone with our potential families. Throughout our chat, we’ll cover areas including your daily habits, household structure, prior pet history, and your expectations for a companion to assess whether one of our Bruiser Bulldogs would excel under your supervision.

2. Deposit – We require a non-refundable $500 deposit to join our wait list for the next English Bulldog puppy available.

3. Choosing your English Bulldog Puppy – When an adopter reaches the top of our wait list, we initiate the puppy selection process. Before making any decisions, we’ll provide photos of all available English Bulldog puppies along with detailed phone discussions about each pup’s unique temperament and characteristics (our personality assessment process is outlined below). We’ll describe each candidate’s personality traits, habits, and individual features, ensuring you grasp how they integrate into your family dynamics. The choice remains entirely in your hands, so we’re committed to delivering expert support and wisdom to ensure your confidence in the selection.

*English Bulldog Puppy Personality Assessment – Ensuring harmonious lifelong relationships between our bulldogs and their families requires detailed personality profiling of each puppy. Our assessment includes careful behavioral observation, temperament analysis, and documentation of individual characteristics. This comprehensive evaluation process cannot be rushed and requires puppies to reach 4-5 weeks of age before we can accurately assess their distinct personalities. While some adopters prefer to select their puppy as early as 2 weeks old, we respectfully decline these requests. Early selection without proper temperament evaluation is counterproductive and can lead to mismatched pairings, as adopters would be choosing their English Bulldog companion without understanding their future pet’s true nature and needs.

4. Once we have matched an adopter to one of our English Bulldog puppies, we transition to puppy prep and training. Each adopter receives personalized support training and puppy prep information focused on how to best transition and care for your new bulldog puppy. For our Nebraska adopters, many choose to use our puppy nanny service where a member of our family will fly with your pup to Eppley Airfield, Lincoln Airport, or your nearest airport. Other adopters prefer to fly to our home to pick up their new family addition. We’re delighted to support either preference. While we absolutely cherish meeting our bulldog adopters in person, we also understand that busy schedule sometimes necessitate phone planning, and we’re happy to arrange the perfect fit through a conversation.

Things to do with your English Bulldog in Nebraska

For a decade, Nebraska families have adopted Bruiser Bulldog English Bulldogs due to their ability to flourish in the city.  From the summer heat, walks around the block, to play sessions in the dog park, a Bruiser Bulldog is truly built for life in a state like Nebraska.

Visit Dog-Friendly Parks: Nebraska has many dog-friendly parks where you can take your Bulldog for a walk or play. Some popular options include Mahoney State Park, Tranquility Park, and Hefflinger Dog Park.

Attend Bulldog Meetups: Look for local English Bulldog meetups or playgroups where your pup can socialize with other Bulldogs. It’s a great way for them to burn off energy and make friends.

Go for Hikes: Take your Bulldog on scenic hikes in places like Platte River State Park or Fontenelle Forest. Just make sure to choose trails suitable for dogs and keep them on a leash.

Explore Downtown Areas: Many downtown areas in Nebraska are dog-friendly, with outdoor patios and shops that welcome well-behaved dogs. Take your Bulldog for a stroll and enjoy some outdoor dining or shopping together.

Visit Dog-Friendly Attractions: Some attractions in Nebraska allow dogs, such as the Lauritzen Gardens or the Old Market in Omaha. Check their pet policies and enjoy a day out with your furry friend.

Agility Training: Bulldogs might not be known for their athleticism, but they can still enjoy agility training. Set up some simple obstacles in your backyard or find a local agility class where you can both have fun and bond.

Take a Road Trip: Nebraska offers many scenic drives where you can take your Bulldog along for the ride. Explore the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway or the Lewis and Clark Scenic Byway for a day of adventure.

Swimming: If your Bulldog enjoys the water, consider taking them to a dog-friendly beach or lake for some swimming fun. Just be sure to keep an eye on them, as Bulldogs are not the best swimmers due to their short legs and heavy build.

Attend Dog Events: Keep an eye out for dog events happening in your area, such as dog-friendly festivals, charity walks, or pet expos. It’s a great way to meet other dog lovers and discover new activities to enjoy with your Bulldog.

FAQs About Owning an English Bulldog in Nebraska

What is the temperament of English Bulldogs? English Bulldogs are known for their gentle, friendly, and affectionate nature. They are generally good with children and make great family pets. However, they can be stubborn at times and may require consistent training and socialization.

Are English Bulldogs suitable for Nebraska’s climate? Yes, English Bulldogs can adapt well to various climates, including Nebraska’s climate. However, they are sensitive to extreme temperatures, so it’s essential to provide them with adequate shelter and avoid exposing them to excessively hot or cold weather for extended periods.

How much exercise do English Bulldogs need? English Bulldogs have low to moderate exercise needs. Short daily walks and some playtime in a fenced yard are usually sufficient to keep them happy and healthy. It’s important not to overexert them, especially in hot weather, due to their brachycephalic (flat-faced) nature, which can cause breathing difficulties.

What are the common health issues associated with English Bulldogs? English Bulldogs are prone to certain health issues, including respiratory problems due to their flat faces, skin allergies, hip dysplasia, and joint problems. Regular veterinary check-ups and a nutritious diet can help manage these health concerns.

Regular brushing with a soft-bristled brush can help remove loose hair and keep their coat looking healthy. Additionally, cleaning their facial wrinkles and ears regularly can prevent infections.

Are English Bulldogs good with other pets? English Bulldogs can get along well with other pets if properly socialized from a young age. However, they may display some territorial behavior, especially with dogs of the same sex. Supervised introductions and positive reinforcement training can help foster good relationships with other pets.

What are the dietary requirements for English Bulldogs? English Bulldogs should be fed a high-quality, balanced diet formulated for their specific age, size, and activity level. Due to their tendency to gain weight easily, it’s essential to monitor their food intake and avoid overfeeding. Additionally, providing fresh water at all times is crucial to prevent dehydration.

How much space do English Bulldogs need? English Bulldogs can adapt well to apartment living as they are not overly active indoors. However, they still require enough space to move around comfortably and should have access to a secure outdoor area for bathroom breaks and short play sessions.
