Can A Healthy Bulldog Win in the Show Ring?

This photo has been on my mind for the last couple of days. It’s a photo of one of our offspring cleaning house at an ABKC (American bully kennel club) bulldog show. She took on 150 English bulldogs in the ring and won best of breed. What you all need to know is that this would have never happened in an AKC show ring. The ABKC has intentionally developed a bulldog breed standard that requires dogs to have athletic and healthy features. This allows breeders to be both competitive in the ring and breed healthy dogs. It’s a great balance. On the other hand, the established AKC has a breed standard that has driven the bulldog to possible extinction with its over wrinkly, poor breathing characteristics. Our dogs would never win in an AKC format because we will not follow their unhealthy breed standards. While I think the AKC is the most trustworthy registration on the planet, their unwillingness to change the bulldog breed standard is simply criminal.
